FontForge
From DejaVuWiki
FontForge is an excellent outline font editor (see fontforge.sourceforge.net) which is used for DejaVu fonts developing.
Developers must use version 20080330 or higher. Postprocess of generated TrueType files is done with Perl module set Font-TTF (versions 1.10 and older were postprocessed with Mensis).
To aid DejaVu fonts creation several handy font utilities were written.
Historical list of FontForge issues related to DejaVu fonts (comments and descriptions may not reflect current state):
- Too small buffer for UTF7 strings loaded from SFD (truncates our font license) - fixed in 20041112
- UTF7 storing eats hyphens (changes our font license on each load/save cycle) - fixed in 20041115
- Glyph comment color not saved for empty glyph (colors are planned to be used for marking of WIP and requested glyphs - excellent idea by James Crippen) - fixed in 20041115
- Ligatures from no-content glyphs are saved in morx TT table (cause of vanishing "nj" bug) - fixed in 20050502
